PodcasterNews Media Hosting Moved

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Today we took the first steps to improve the media delivery of the Podcaster News Network. The primary hosting provider we have used for a couple of years once again had media delivery issues. Since we had already done the needed testing I told our CIO to make the switch.

Recent concerns that the statistics from that media property were being aggregated into that companies press releases also prompted us to make the change.

The media for PCN is now being hosted by CDN Panther Express and cross archived on our own archiving platform. We have spent a lot of time in recent weeks making improvements to the RawVoice Generator giving us the ability now to host on multiple platforms such as Amazon S3 and other CDN services like Panther Express.

The RawVoice Generator which is the only commercially available podcast publishing platform and combined social media site, has nearly three years of continuous development, and is the most powerful new media publishing platform on the net today that supports all of our communities and those of our customers.

The ability to push media to wherever we need it to go on a show by show basis was important because we understand that each shows producers needs are different. While most new amateur media creators do not need the power of a CDN like Panther Express. Some seasoned creators and those with large audiences or even shows that have seen immediate success may need the power of a CDN delivery service.

RawVoice is committed to bringing added value services to those podcasters that we work with and those that host their media on our platform.

Zune MarketPlace Podcast Subscriptions Explode!

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

ZunegraphAngelo the CIO here at RawVoice was well prepared to make sure that we were ready when the new Zunes were introduced. We wanted to make sure that our podcast stats service was ready to track the Zune MarketPlace Downloads.

Today while I was checking my personal podcast stats. I found that I had obtained an amazing number of downloads from people using the Zune MarketPlace.

One thing is readily apparent. The Big Bold “Podcast” listing on the Zune Menu on the player, and the one click subscription method in the Marketplace is going to really increase the reach of Podcasting.

It may even be more significant than iTunes over time. In the iTunes menu you have to dig and dig to find a Podcast but one thing that the folks at Zune did was make podcasting link and directory as prominent as music, and the podcast content is easy to find.

While the Zune Player is lower in Market share than the iPod by a long stretch, the simple fact that people are going to be able to find podcast easier in the Zune Marketplace is significant.

RawVoice Statistics Support Zune user agent and more

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

The RawVoice Statistics system that powers the Blubrry, TechPodcasts and PodcasterNews media download statistics has been updated to detect the Zune user agent.  The Statistics system now detects over 70 different Podcatchers, web browsers, operating systems, phones and web bots.

Other clients that we are now indicated in our Statistics system include VadixBot, YodaoBot, PodPuppy podcatcher, RSS Radio podcatcher, and the uTorrent bit-torrent client

We’ve designed the system so it is easy for us to detect and add new user agents as they start to appear in the community.  We add the user agent to our system once we observe over 1,000 requests from that user agent in a given month.  We take detecting the clients and platforms seriously. 1,000 is very small compared to the millions of requests we handle every month.

We audit the user agents on a monthly basis in order to include the most comprehensive statistics system possible.  The entire process allows us to better support our podcasters in our communities.  During our last user agent audit, we indirectly discovered that the new Zune Marketplace uses the normal RSS image rather than the itunes:image.  We will be sending out a reminder to our community members to make sure both of their RSS images are up to date.

Are you using the RawVoice Statistics system at one of our communities?  If so, please leave comments to this post with your thoughts of the system along with any recommendations that you may have.

Important Notice for RawVoice Podcast Stats Service!

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

I have received a couple of emails from podcasters using our stats service asking for help today. Sadly our attempt to communicate with some of you of this notice over the past month has resulted in you not getting notices from us even though we have sent three separate mailings.

If you are using the RawVoice Stats service via one of our communities we want to make you aware of a change to the stats redirect format. The change is a simple one but critical in that we found some media players primarily Windows Media Player, and the Zune Marketplace player do not handle our old redirect format.

The fix is dropping the second “http://” this will fix any issues your listeners may have with downloading your shows in WMP and Zune MarketPlace!
