You will want to upgrade your Wordpress ASAP, there are security issues with older versions of Wordpress. Upgrading your copy of Wordpress is one solution, the other is to try the following version of the subscribe sidebar which removes the user level check: Subscribe Sidebar 1.0a.

Hi, I just installed Subscribe Sidebar and got this error message while trying to update my options:

“You are not a LEVEL 8 or above USER & hence you cannot configure Subscribe Sidebar. If you are a LEVEL 8 or above USER, then please Logout & Login again.”

I logged out & logged back in and still got the message. I am the owner of the site (therockandrollfantasy.com) and am the only one with access to the Admin functions.

I’m still running WP 2.2.1 (don’t ask) — could that be the problem?

Thanks guys for the feedback! This plugin does work with other plugins that redirect the feed such as FeedSmith. I wrote my own Wordpress plugin a year ago that writes my feeds as a static xml files and changes the URL in Wordpress the static ones (e.g. site.com/rss2.xml). I can copy the logic from that plugin to this one pretty easily. I've been thinking about making that plugin available as well, the jury is still out on that one. I see what you mean by the sidebar header title. This is only an issue for those who use the dynamic widgets version of the plugin. I'll get that fixed in the next version.

I agree with your feedback Mike. Although this could work out of the box for many people, it would be a great value add for the configuration window to have an option to add an alternate feed for subscription.

This won’t work for me. I like the idea, but I need better control of the RSS feeds that are given. I would recommend changing it to allow the user to enter in the feed(s). In my case the site feed is myshow.com/feed and the podcast feed is myshow.com/podcast.xml (with redirection). This also won’t work for those using feedburner for their feeds.

This is a good plugin idea. I tried it out on the blog and found one issue that you may want to correct. If the blog sidebar widget has a formatted header, as most WP sidebar widgets do these days, a pair of headers are produced. You get a blank header and then a header with the title of the plugin.

This is showing up because the title variable is not being invoked in the widget code. At least I think that’s what it is. So consider cleaning that up. Would also be good to make the title editable via the widget screen. Editable titles seem to be the norm for WordPress widgets that have been released lately.
