Announce #16 Oct 2006
Hi Everyone
Before I kick off this week’s announcement I want to welcome the 40+ new community members since our last update and make sure all of you get signed up for the private podcaster mailing list details at the bottom of the e-mail.
New RawVoice Team Member
I would like to welcome Rob Safuto to the RawVoice team, he is now in charge of marketing for RawVoice. He is a Podcaster & Videocaster, as the majority of the team is so he knows the space well. Rob is a welcome addition to the team. He will be communicating with all of you on specific things that he will be doing to help get your sites exposure and how you can help us continue to grow and drive eyes to the site to build your audiences. You can reach him at marketing@rawvoice.com
Site Traffic!
Thus far in October we will double the traffic to blubrry.com from September, and in fact we are seeing the traffic increase so fast, that we may have to buy more servers earlier than planned. This is good news for you and we are happy with the increase in traffic.
Site Update:
We have a lot of things cooking folks the team met on Tuesday and refined our site priority list. As you may know we have picked up some commercial customers that want the power of Blubrry for there own companies, and we have been rolling sites for them on top of everything else. This is one of the reasons we are on the hunt for 2 more people to join the team. We need a Linux Administrator and also another Developer / Web Designer details are available at www.rawvoice.com
We had hoped to have the hosting feature up and running, but their simply has not been enough hours in the day to get it finished but we are very close but I would rather make sure it is working flawless before we turn it loose it is one feature that cannot have any bugs.
Site Issues:
The following is very important and we really need your opinions and feedback on this issue. In our programmatic logic in the way we process your RSS feeds, we look at your RSS feed about every hour to see if it has been updated. When we find it has been updated we update your program listing plus you go to the top of the stack on the shows page and also the front page listing.
But what we have begun to notice and receive some listener feedback is that some shows “blog” a great deal and podcast very little! What this does is cause some confusion in the shows listings as we re-stack the shows from newest to oldest, up to this point we have imported all your content and any new content gets a podcast to the top of the shows stack when in fact they have not produced a new podcast but instead put out a blog post.
With that in mind I have asked the team to consider the following four changes of which we want some podcaster feedback at blubrry@blubrry.com
- Only shows that have an actual new produced Podcast would get to the top of the shows page. A blog post would not put you back to the top of the shows stack that placement would continue to age
“What this does is reward those that are actually creating new Audio and Video Content”
- On the programs page we are going to make design changes to the “current episodes” listing so that Blog entries do not have a play button nor will they have a download button. In their place will be a read button and we will remove some of the confusing verbiage that should not be their
- Ideas we are kicking around we will allow each podcaster to through a configuration setting, choose if he or she only wants podcast post put on the programs page and not list any post that do not have an enclosure
- Dependent on community feedback we will allow listeners to choose if he or she only wants to see recent podcast in the program pages.
The initial feedback I have gotten from podcasters is that they do not like it when a blog post gets a listing back to the top of the shows page, as it just confuses the listeners of the sight. The secondary feedback that I have gotten is that most people want their blog post shown on their Programs page as this gives them a way to communicate with listeners on non podcast production days.
I think the changes we have proposed to the interface will clear up the confusion of the listeners. We want to hear your feedback at blubrry@blubrry.com or you can raise the commentary in the public mailing list
Need Help with your Stats?
In the next couple of days we will make available our re-direct service and if you are having trouble with your stats, or your provider is not providing you with enough detail we can help you with that. During the initial roll-out we will limit the number of people using it as we need to make sure that our implementation will scale. Plus Angelo is working on the stats detail page that will ultimately give you daily stats updates.
Money in Your Pocket
Also we are starting to see a significant influx of varied advertisers making inquiries. If you have not filled out your advertising survey you cannot be included in any of those potential ad buys. With last weeks pull of data we are now in negotiations to put another 100 plus shows on a new Ad buy that will start at the beginning of the year if we can come to agreeable terms with the advertiser.
House Cleaning
We continue to see a significant number of incomplete podcast profiles. Be a
good
neighbor by taking advantage of all the space we give you on your show pages
to personalize your home on blubrry.com. Get your keyword and show
descriptions tweaked so that you have a better chance of being found!
As always
We remain a site that does not lock you in, make you sign a contract and
allows you to leave at any time. Our user agreement is the quite possibly
the fairest of all podcasting sites. Help make Blubrry the social podcast
community of choice for podcasters and listeners alike by telling your
friends that you are on Blubrry.com!
Both your input and your listener input are what drive the development of
this site, so let us know what you think.
Aloha
